“The divine sprit of “Positivism”

The word positivism comprises of ten devine letters, they stand for ten virtues of par excellence.P—stands for purity ,O---Stands for obeisance, S---for sincerity ,I---Intelligence, T---Truth, I---Intuition, V---Virtues, S---Simplicity and M---Magnanimity. The stipulated virtues combined together build positivism. Posivitism is the very bedrock of triumph in life. Positive dreams will pave way for positive thoughts, Positive thoughts lead us t o positive acts, positive acts will accomplish success in our own way. Positivism is a spirit of dynamic nature. We have to make ssupreme effort to put only positive thought in our memory bank. Michael Lebece stated “The world in your mirror and your mind is a magnet. What is largely a reflection of your own attitude and beliefs. Life will give you , what you attract with your thoughts. Think and act and talk. Think and act and tal negatively and your world will be negative. Think and talk with enthusiasm and you will attract positive results”.

Positive frame of mind is a pre-requisite to ascend ourselves to the dizzying heights. IT is said that there is nothing good or bad but thinking make it so. Nothing is unattainable in the vast world of ours, if we imbibe the basic bedrocks of life. Our thoughts, feelings and actions should connivance with one another for reaping the real success.
Jan Ash ford thing as can’t, only won’t. If you are qualified all it takes is a burning desire to accomplish to make change. Go forward, go backward. What ever it takes. You can’t blame other people or society in general. It all comes from your mind. When we do the impossible we realize we are special people”. Choose the goal and put supreme effort to attain it with positive waves. Thomas Alva Edison claimed “Nothing happened to me by accident; none of my inventions are the results of accidents. All my inventions have been, work and more work”.

Maharaj Yashwantrao Hospital, Indore

Scene 1:

Year 1994. Plauge scare in Indore, following reports of plauge in neighbouring city of Surat.
People of Surat approach the Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital. The one time largest goverment hospital in Asia was in no way capable of helping the needy. Infact it was home to thousands of rats itself.

Scene 2:
Year 2007. People shifting to this hospital from private nursing homes. And what they say, "not only is the treatment good but also cheap. Patients no matter how poor are not turned back'.

So what brought about this change?
When Plauge scare spread and people of Indore found out that their, once largest hospital in Asia, could not handle the situation, drastic steps had to be taken. A committee of over 100 persons came into existence in November 1994 and was known as `Rogi Kalyan Samiti’ (RKS) or `Patient’s Welfare Committee’. It consisted of people from every walk of life and was monitoring the entire process

As a first step of clean up, the hospital was vacated and cleaned. 150 truck loads of garbage and junk were removed. Nearly eleven thousand rats were killed.

It started with two rupees for the OPD ticket, which now costs Rs.5/-. Even the specialised services of the ICCU are charged as low as Rs.150 per bed. The monthly collection through user charges come to around Rs.6 lakhs, when earlier it was nil.

Today, RKS involve themselves in
1.Ensuring regular maintenance, repairs and necessary construction/expansion of the physical facilities in the hospitals.
2.Ensuring cleaning, security, hospital waste management, MIS and other services of the hospital throughprivate agencies.
3.Providing improved facilities by addition or upgradation of OT complexes; sonography, burn unit; ICCU;pediatric (ICU); CAT-scan units; centralized pathological set up etc.
4.Purchase of equipment, chemicals, furniture and other necessities for efficient running of the hospitals.
5.Providing improved medical facilities through purchase of modern equipment through the donationreceived and if required through loans from financial institutions.
6.Providing a better atmosphere, facilities for attendants and ensuring improved medical facilities in general.
7.Introduction of appropriate methods of disposal of medical waste.
8.To provide medical care to the poor and needy free of cost or highly subsidized rates ascompared to private hospitals.

This positive step could be emulated in almost all of the government hospitals in India. Madhya pradesh has taken the lead and has incorporated this in it's policy.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost
